Washington, D.C. August 29, 2016. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) recently approved the National Whistleblower Center’s application for membership. The IUCN is the world’s largest and most diverse environmental network.
Membership in the IUCN will facilitate the NWC’s international anti-corruption environmental protection project to stop illegal trafficking of wildlife. “The NWC is looking forward to the opportunity to partner with other members to protect wildlife whistleblowers worldwide,” said Stephen M. Kohn, NWC’s executive director. “Whistleblowers are the key for detecting wildlife crimes from where they originate, at the ports and borders,” Kohn added.
The NWC will attend the 2016 IUCN World Conservation Congress, in Honolulu, HI, September 1-10, 2016. IUCN Congress can visit the NWC exhibition booth (#1023) for more information about our program.
NWC is a Prize Winner in USAID’s Wildlife Crime Tech Challenge – an initiative of USAID in partnership with the National Geographic Society, the Smithsonian Institution, and TRAFFIC.
