On March 26, Forbes released its inaugural list of America’s Top 200 Lawyers, highlighting “the finest practitioners in the profession—lawyers with stellar track records in their specialties, those who have broken barriers to emerge as leaders in their fields, and attorneys most respected by peers and clients.”
Among the attorneys chosen is whistleblower attorney Stephen M. Kohn, who has represented whistleblowers since 1984. Forbes notes that Kohn, a founding partner of Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto and Chairman of the Board of the National Whistleblower Center “specializes in whistleblower advocacy and has helped change that legal landscape.”
“He won $104 million for UBS whistleblower Bradley Birkenfeld, among the largest-ever individual tax whistleblower reward payments, and currently represents Danske Bank whistleblower Howard Wilkinson in its massive money-laundering scandal,” Forbes explains. “Kohn has helped draft key whistleblower legislation and regulation, including those incorporated into the Sarbanes-Oxley and Dodd-Frank acts.”
“Although I am honored by this designation, all of our cases are a team effort by lawyers dedicated to demanding that whistleblowers be fully protected and awarded,” said Kohn. “But the persons deserving recognition are our clients who have saved lives, returned billions to the taxpayers, and risked everything to serve the public interest.”
“These clients are the heroes – we simply help them deliver justice,” Kohn added.
Kohn recently appeared on WNN’s Whistleblower of the Week podcast, where he discussed the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in the whistleblower case Murray v. UBS Securities.
Kohn is also the most published author on whistleblower law. His latest book, Rules for Whistleblowers: A Handbook for Doing What’s Right has received rave reviews. For example, Kirkus praised Rules for Whistleblowers in a review, calling it “definitive and compulsively readable.”
