In this episode, Jane talks with FBI forensic laboratory whistleblower Frederic Whitehurst. Whitehurst, a veteran and accomplished FBI agent, earned a Ph.D in chemistry and worked at the FBI laboratory as a Supervisory Special Agent. He blew the whistle on misconduct at the lab, noting the outdated and dirty equipment, and bringing attention to instances where lab employees committed perjury and altered records in favor of the prosecution.

They discuss Whitehurst’s career journey to the FBI lab, the activities on which he blew the whistle, and his navigating through the Bureau as he constantly tried to speak up against wrongdoing. Whitehurst provides updates on his organization, the Forensic Justice Project, and discusses the ways he’s working to be an advocate for whistleblowers after his illustrious career.
