On July 30, whistleblowers, whistleblower advocates, and government officials will gather on Capitol Hill for the National Whistleblower Center’s annual National Whistleblower Day celebration.

Among the speakers that day will be two of whistleblowers’ leading champions in Congress: Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Wyden (D-OR). Grassley and Wyden are co-founders and co-chairs of the Senate Whistleblower Protection Caucus and have sponsored a number of critical whistleblower laws.

As chairs of the Senate Whistleblower Protection Caucus, Grassley and Wyden have also played a critical role in the recognition of National Whistleblower Day. Each year for the past decade, they have introduced a Senate resolution designating July 30 as National Whistleblower Day in order to celebrate whistleblowers’ contributions to combating waste, fraud and abuse in the United States.

“Whistleblowers foster transparency and accountability across government and the private sector. You can’t fix something if you don’t know it’s broken. On National Whistleblower Day, we recognize the patriotic men and women who risk their reputation and often their job to shine a light on fraud, save taxpayer money and root out wrongdoing. I look forward to once again celebrating this important occasion,” Senator Grassley said.

“Whistleblowers have never been more important in preserving the foundation of our democracy than they are right now,” Senator Wyden said. “I am laser focused on protecting whistleblowers and ensuring those that seek to expose fraud and abuse in their government can do so without fear of retribution.”

“We are thrilled that Senators Grassley and Wyden, two longtime champions of whistleblowers, will once again be joining our National Whistleblower Day celebration,” said NWC Chairman Stephen M. Kohn. “Their presence at the event underscores the bipartisan support for whistleblowers in Congress and among the American public.”

More speakers are still to be announced for the 2024 National Whistleblower Day celebration. In past years, speakers have included whistleblowers such as Sherron Watkins and Linda Tripp as well as government officials like SEC Chair Gary Gensler and Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh. The 2024 National Whistleblower Day celebration is available to watch on C-SPAN.
