This year’s celebration of National Whistleblower Day, hosted by the National Whistleblower Center (NWC) on Thursday, July 30, celebrates the vital role of whistleblowers and those that support them in promoting accountability from governments and institutions across the world.

This year’s programming will highlight the fundamental role that journalists and the media play in this system. By researching and amplifying whistleblower tips, journalists and other media members allow whistleblowers an avenue to expose wrongdoing, informing the public and spurring action against lawbreakers.

Among the decorated speaker list at the NWC’s 13th annual National Whistleblower Day celebration are award-winning reporters, journalists, and artists. Media members speaking at this year’s luncheon include:

Kevin G. Hall, the North American Editor for the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), has spent over 27 years reporting on corruption, financial misconduct, labor abuses, and international affairs. Hall has received numerous recognitions for his work, including the 2017 Pulitzer Prize as a lead U.S. partner in breaking the Panama Papers, the Society of Professional Journalist’s Sigma Delta Xi award for best foreign correspondence in 2004, and the 2021 National Headliner Award for a series about a failed coup in Venezuela and the U.S. security firm involved.

Oishika Neogi is a New York-based investigative reporter that frequently covers the criminal justice system, prisons, and official misconduct. She currently freelances with The New York Times and is a correspondent for The Florida Trib. In the past, she has worked with a long list of reputable media outlets, including an investigative outlet in New Delhi, India, the OCCRP, Forbidden Stories, and Al Jazeera.

Ben Foldy is an investigative reporter at ProPublica specializing in finance, business, and power and a former reporter on The Wall Street Journal’s investigations team in New York, where he focused on fraud, financial crime, cryptocurrency, and corporate malfeasance. Foldy’s work has earned him a spot as a Gerald Loeb Award finalist twice and recognitions from the New York and National Press Clubs.

Carrie Johnson, Supreme Court and Justice Correspondent for NPR, covers the Justice Department, law enforcement, courts, and major legal affairs. Her reporting has exposed consequential issues within our government, such as misconduct by federal judges, the tumultuous journey of the Justice Department in recent years, and systematic issues in the judiciary. Her accolades include awards from the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights, the Society for Professional Journalists, and SABEW, a Champion of Justice award from the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and being named a finalist for both the Loeb Award and the Pulitzer Prize.

Zefrey Throwell is a New York-based painter and videographer who uses his work to expose hidden systems of power and challenge social complacency. Throwell’s work has a special focus on unmasking Wall Street inequities using documentation, dramatization, and humor. He is currently directing a feature documentary on FBI whistleblower Jane Turner, who will also be a speaker at this year’s event.

The National Whistleblower Day 2026 celebration will be held on July 30th in the Kennedy Caucus Room on Capitol Hill. Additional speakers are to be announced.
