The National Whistleblower Center (NWC) will be hosting a side event at the 11th session of the Conference of the State Parties (CoSP) to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) in Doha, Qatar.
The session, titled “Advancing Effective Mobilization and Protection of Whistleblowers for Accountability,” importantly addresses the tools needed to protect and mobilize whistleblowers. The panelists, ranging from lawyers, investigative journalists, and experts, will share how supporting whistleblowers is essential to actualizing transnational anti-corruption laws.
The side event will also raise awareness on the traumatic impacts of whistleblowing, and how whistleblowers should be compensated for these damages.
Moderated by NWC Program Manager Jeana Lee, the session combines voices from NWC and Whistleblowers of America, highlighting the collaborative approach to whistleblower advocacy.
“By bringing together the people who uncover corruption, investigate it, defend against retaliation, and fight for enforcement, the National Whistleblower Center underscores a simple truth,” said Stephen Kohn, Chairman of NWC and one of the panelists at the side event. “And that is, whistleblowers are indispensable to the global fight for transparency. They deserve a system that protects them with equal resolve.”
The session will take place on December 18th during “Uncovering Corruption Day: From Exposure to Accountability.” The day will consist of side events that bring together key actors who expose and combat corruption, creating a rare space to strengthen the tools that keep them safe. NWC’s side event is scheduled to take place at 11:40am local time.
