In honor of National Whistleblower Day, a number of federal agencies posted tweets celebrating whistleblowers and informing their employees of their whistleblower rights.
For the tenth consecutive year, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a resolution designating July 30 as National Whistleblower Day. The resolution encourages federal agencies to celebrate by informing employees of their whistleblower rights and “acknowledging the contributions of whistleblowers to combating waste, fraud, abuse, and violations of laws and regulations of the United States.”
Prior to National Whistleblower Day, a number of federal agencies confirmed with WNN their plans for recognizing day. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) also released statements honoring the day.
Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), one of the senators who sponsored the National Whistleblower Day resolution, celebrated the day with an online Q&A as well as a speech at the National Whistleblower Center’s National Whistleblower Day event.
In the days leading up to National Whistleblower Day, as well as the day following up, several agencies took to Twitter to celebrate the contributions of whistleblowers and highlight their agencies’ whistleblower protocols:
