Senator Grassley To Give Keynote Address On National Whistleblower Day

Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA), the Chairman of the Senate Whistleblower Protection Caucus and longtime advocate of expanded whistleblower rights and protection, will give the keynote speech at the National Whistleblower Day Celebration on July 30th. This year marks the eighth year in a row that the Senate has unanimously resolved July 30th to be National Whistleblower Appreciation Day. Senator Grassley has long been a proponent of whistleblowers. In 2007, the National Whistleblower Center (NWC) gave him Lifetime Achievement Award for over twenty-five years of dedicated work towards the cause.

When presenting the award, Stephen Kohn, NWC’s Chairman, said of Senator Grassley: “No other member of Congress has so consistently supported whistleblowers. For Senator Grassley, it never mattered if the President was a Democrat or Republican. It only mattered that the public safety was protected, that the taxpayers were not robbed, and that government was responsive to its citizenry. His efforts have saved the taxpayers billions of dollars and have protected the careers of hundreds of honest employees who simply wanted to do their jobs and properly report misconduct.”

Senator Grassley has fought for whistleblower protections under Democratic and Republican administrations, always demonstrating his overwhelming commitment to legislation that encourages whistleblowers to step forward. On National Whistleblower Day, he will give an address titled “Whistleblowers in Times of Crisis.” Because of COVID-19, the National Whistleblower Day event and seminars will stream live online. You can RSVP to the stream here.
