National Whistleblower Day Panel To Discuss COVID-19 Whistleblowers

On July 30, a date that the U.S. Senate has designated as National Whistleblower Appreciation Day for the eighth consecutive year, the National Whistleblower Center will host a series of panels centered around whistleblowing.

One panel will discuss how whistleblowers have been especially crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic in uncovering fraud, waste, and misconduct. They will also provide suggestions for how we can best support and protect whistleblowers during this health crisis.

Covid-19 Crisis: The Contribution of Whistleblowers to Public Health and Economic Revitalization, will be moderated by Susan Coler, Principal at Halunen Law and a Labor and Employment Law Specialist who is well-versed in litigating qui tam/False Claims Act cases and advocating for whistleblowers. Panelists include Jhonna Porter, a California registered nurse, retaliated against by her employer when she informed her colleagues about their floor being turned into a COVID-19 unit despite the staff’s lack of personal protective equipment. Michael Horowitz, the Inspector General of the Department of Justice and Acting Chair of the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee will also serve as a panelist, along with Henry Kerner, Special Counsel of the Office of Special Counsel.

This panel will stream live from 12:45 P.M.-1:15 P.M. EDT on July 30. To RSVP for this panel for free, click here.
