New Rates Set for False Claims Act Whistleblower Cases

The U.S. Department of Commerce has published new rates for the civil penalties payable in False Claims Act whistleblower cases. Qui tam whistleblowers who file False Claims Act lawsuits are eligible to receive between 15 and 30 percent of the total recovered from the defendant. In qui tam actions, the government has a right to intervene and join the lawsuit. The new rates set the sanction for each false claim filed with the government between a minimum of $11,463 and a maximum of $23,331.
