Pelosi Names First Director for Office of Whistleblower Ombudsman

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced the first director for the newly established House Office of the Whistleblower Ombudsman.

Pelosi appointed Shanna Devine as the first director of the new office. Devine has most recently worked as an advocate for whistleblower rights at Public Citizen, a public interest organization located in Washington, D.C. She also previously worked at the Government Accountability Project, a whistleblower protection organization.

The office was established at the start of the current Congress and will provide best practices and training for lawmakers to receive confidential information from whistleblowers about government wrongdoing.

“Whistleblowers shine a bright light on malfeasance in our government and the private sector,” said Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a statement. “There has long been a bipartisan commitment to protecting the voices of those who speak the truth and put their livelihoods on the line to root out waste, fraud, and abuse.”
