National Whistleblower Center Announces National Whistleblower Day 2022 Programming

National Whistleblower Day

On June 15, the National Whistleblower Center (NWC) announced the general program for National Whistleblower Day 2022. This year’s National Whistleblower Day celebration will be held online over three days, July 28-30, and will consist of live events.

On Thursday, July 28, the programming will center around whistleblower legislation. NWC Executive Director Siri Nelson and the Chairman of the Board Stephen M. Kohn will kick off the event with welcome remarks. The rest of the day’s programming includes a fireside chat with leadership from the House Office of the Whistleblower Ombuds, a panel featuring the North American Securities Administrators Association, and to-be-announced keynote speeches by government leaders. Keynote speakers at last year’s National Whistleblower Day included Senator Chuck Grassley, Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh, Representative Jackie Speier, and SEC Chair Gary Gensler.

Friday, July 29, will feature international whistleblowers and whistleblower advocates. The day’s programming includes whistleblower advocates from around the world engaging in a discussion of whistleblower rights in their region and needed changes to further whistleblower protections. This day’s events will also feature a panel of international whistleblowers moderated by Fishrot whistleblower Jóhannes Stefánsson. July 29’s schedule will conclude with a fireside chat with environmental rights activist Professor Alfred Brownell.

The programming on Saturday, July 30, features U.S. advocates and whistleblower recognition. Kohn will kick off the day by giving a talk on the story behind National Whistleblower Day. Next, influential U.S. whistleblowers will join WNN’s Jane Turner for an in-depth discussion about the impacts whistleblowing has had and continues to have on their lives and families. That will be followed by a panel of early career whistleblower attorneys who will discuss their role in whistleblower rights and protections. Whistleblower Dr. Allison Gill will close out the event with a keynote address on her whistleblowing and its aftermath.

In addition to hosting the National Whistleblower Day celebration, each year NWC sends letters to federal agencies urging them to recognize the day and educate their staffs on whistleblower protections and the importance of whistleblowing. NWC is also pushing for the permanent recognition of National Whistleblower Day.
