Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-CA) will deliver a keynote address at the National Whistleblower Day Celebration on July 30th. A lifelong proponent of strong whistleblower protections, Congresswoman Speier, is a co-founder and co-chair of the House Whistleblower Protection Caucus. Throughout her tenure in Congress, she prioritized expanding whistleblower protections with military whistleblowers to call attention to sexual assault within the military. While in the California State Senate, Congresswoman Speier set up a highly successful whistleblower tip line that led to an investigation of the California prison system. She also revised California’s Whistleblower Protection Act to include provisions that ensure state workers are informed of their rights as potential whistleblowers. Congresswoman Speier has been a whistleblower champion since her election to office more than forty years ago.
The Senate has unanimously resolved that July 30th serve as National Whistleblower Day for the eighth consecutive year. Congresswoman Speier’s keynote address is titled “Protecting COVID-19 Whistleblowers”. A week-long summit honoring whistleblowers begins July 28 and leads to the annual celebration of National Whistleblower Day. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual celebration will be virtual this year. Those watching the live stream will have the opportunity to ask questions. Register to attend the live stream here.
