Rules for Whistleblowers Chosen by Kirkus as Top 100 Indie Book of 2023

Rules for Whistleblowers

On December 18, Kirkus Reviews announced its Top 100 Indie Books of 2023. Among the titles chosen is Rules for Whistleblowers: A Handbook for Doing What’s Right by whistleblower attorney Stephen M. Kohn

Kirkus additionally awarded Rules for Whistleblowers The Kirkus Star, which recognizes exceptional merit in books. Previously, Kirkus praised Rules for Whistleblowers in a review, calling it “definitive and compulsively readable.”

The book is the seventh book on whistleblowing published by Kohn, the most published author on whistleblowing and a founding partner of Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto. It provides an overview of U.S. whistleblower laws and provides advice to would-be-whistleblowers on how to best go about making a disclosure of misconduct.

Rules for Whistleblowers features a foreword from Sherron Watkins, Enron whistleblower and 2002 TIME Person of the Year.

“Stephen Kohn has been a committed champion and defender of whistleblowers for over four decades,” says Watkins. “He sees each whistleblower in all their humanity, their courage, their integrity, their fears, their grief, loss and betrayal; and he fights for them to regain some semblance of their former life. His new book, Rules for Whistleblowers, is a fantastic resource for whistleblowers and those who wish to support whistleblowers.”

Other reviewers have also praised Rules for Whistleblowers. On December 6, Readers View gave the book 5 stars, noting: “‘Rules for Whistleblowers: A Handbook for Doing What’s Right’ by Stephen Kohn is an eye-opening book that will lead you to a better understanding of the important role whistleblowers play in our lives. Kohn’s all-encompassing dive into whistleblowing is as engaging as it is informative. If you’ve ever been an informant, or have thought about doing so, then this book will resonate strongly with you.”

In its review of Rules for WhistleblowersPublishers Weekly called the work “an essential resource for potential whistleblowers, packed with practical advice.” It also stated that Rules for Whistleblowers “lays out in clear and inviting language what potential whistleblowers need to know and consider before exposing fraud, tax evasion, safety violations, and other illegalities—even wildlife trafficking—in the workplace.”

The Whistleblower Law Library, a free online companion to the book, is already available on Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto’s site.
