Webinar on Tackling Corruption and Environmental Crime Features Leading Whistleblower Attorney

On March 24, the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) and the Wildlife Justice Commission (WTC) are hosting a virtual panel discussion “Avenues for Tackling the Corruption that Enables Environmental Crime.” The webinar features expert panelists presenting concrete steps to tackle the interrelated issues of corruption and environmental crime.

One panelist is leading whistleblower attorney Stephen M. Kohn of Kohn, Kohn, & Colapinto. “Protecting whistleblowers is a cornerstone to stopping illegal deforestation, IUU fishing and wildlife trafficking,” says Kohn, an expert on both anti-corruption whistleblowing and environmental whistleblowing. “It is imperative that those fighting these crimes know how they can use whistleblower laws to be effective.”

According to IACA, “any strategy willing to address environmental crime must target the corruption that enables it. This event will underline the challenges faced by law enforcement in investigating the nexus between environmental crime and corruption and will discuss the key best practices to target these crimes.”

Kohn will be joined on the panel by Maria Adomeit, Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer for the Corruption and Economic Crime Branch at the UNODC, and Hendelene Prinsloo, Senior Intelligence Analyst at the Wildlife Justice Commission. The event will be moderated by Syeda Mehar Zehra, CAMS MLRO & Manager – AML/Sanctions Compliance at HBL Bank Pakistan.

IACA has recently hosted a number of panels and courses concerning whistleblower protection. In February, it hosted a virtual panel discussion entitled “Whistleblower Protection in Action: How to Shield Workplace Witnesses from Retaliation.” In November 2021, IACA held a virtual course “Successful Strategies and Best Practices in Whistleblower Casework.”

The webinar will take place on March 24 at 9:00 am EDT. Register for the event here.
