A manager of an Amazon facility in Hawthorne, California, died last month after three colleagues blew the whistle on health concerns related to protection against the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Operations manager Gerard Tuzara is the first known Amazon employee to die from the novel virus. According to the Washington Post, the virus has infected workers in at least 74 facilities.
Several whistleblowers at the Los Angeles-area facility expressed concern for the safety of workers in the company’s warehouses and delivery drivers.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that three Amazon employees who spoke out about dangerous conditions had been fired. “No company should punish their employees for showing concern for one another, especially during a pandemic!” whistleblower Maren Costa recently said in a statement.
